Wrap-Up: November 2013

I do this monthly wrap-up thing, where I rate books I read this November 2013.

  • Set in Stone by Linda Newberry

Rating: 3/5 STARS

I bought this book blindly, meaning I didn't have a clue what it was about. The cover really attracted me. If you're curious to how it looks, here you go:

And then I read the SYNOPSIS. To be honest, I didn't fall in love with the book as much as I expected. I thought this book will have a touch of paranormal/ supernatural, but no.. this is very much contemporary... HISTORICAL CONTEMPORARY.

However, I didn't say it wasn't good enough. I guess it's an ok book, it's just not my cup of tea.

I also didn't like the changing POV, and I think Marianne was weird in an uncomfortable way.

  • Switched/Torn/Ascend by Amanda Hocking (The Trylle Trilogy)

Rating: 5/5 STARS for Switched, Torn, Ascend

This is my first re-read on a series, and it's been successful. I mean, Amanda Hocking even favorited my tweet!

The Trylle Trilogy is one of my favorite trilogies of all time. It's not perfect, I know... and maybe if I look more closely, I may find loopholes here and there. But I don't care. For me, I think it's perfect the way it is. Maybe it's the characters, how they were built. Or maybe it's the setting, the world of Forening. Or maybe it's the romance, the action, the magic, and all the feels in the world.

The Trylle Trilogy held a very satisfying conclusion. Usually, on a series, there's always that one book that doesn't sit well with the rest. There's that one book that disappoints you, or if you're less lucky... there's that last book that sucked. I may not be 100% happy with how it ended because I pitied that one character, but I'm not against it as well. It flowed so smoothly, all I can do was nod my approval. It's like it was written to contrast negativity, like being hypnotized along the reading process. That in itself almost feel like Wendy's persuasion.

  • The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (Read my full review here)

Rating: 4/5 STARS

  • Allegiant by Veronica Roth (Read my full review here)

Rating: 3.5/5 STARS

  • The Evolution of Mara Dyer (Read my full review here)

Rating: 5/5 STARS

  • The Diviners by Libba Bray

Rating: 2/5 STARS

I may not have the right to rate this book, because I actually didn't finish it. And I have no intention on finishing it. It's just not the book for me.

Don't get me wrong. I love the idea of it all. The main plot sounded cool. It's so full of mystery. But the main character kind of irritated me. She's very spoiled, almost like a brat.

I also didn't like all the flowery descriptions. There's too much of it! I ended up making mental notes and outlines, as if I was reading a textbook for school. The pleasure of reading was cast away, because there's just too much descriptions! It really irritated me that I actually tried skipping all the descriptions to see if I can still cope up. And yes, I did still. I think descriptions work for some people, but two paragraphs are enough for me, I don't need the entire two to three pages! It was unnecessary on my part.

I also think there's too much sub-plots. Hell do I care for other characters. I don't know why, but I said it before, and I'll say it again. Maybe this book just isn't for me.

However, the main plot was still superb, and I am still curious on how it will all transpire. But how it was written and presented just killed my motivation to find out, I'm sorry.
