I just had a very interesting conversation with someone, and it led me to realize the difference between having someone by your side versus having someone at your back.
Yes, there is a difference.
Allow me to explain.
Having someone by your side is like indulging in a partnership. And partly, I do believe that that's the reason why the bride and the groom go side by side as they face the altar. They are meant to share life together - as partners. They share the agony. They share the happiness. They share the problems. They share success. They share the risk. They share opinions. They are as one. And that could be annoying.
However, having someone at your back is a different story. And it's actually what I prefer. It's always been known to myself that though I enjoy the company of others, I work alone the best. "Being alone is different from being lonely." This quote basically summarizes my point. I prefer to work alone because I get irritated off of people's petty issues. I never liked people telling me what to do, or advising me how to handle things when deep down inside they just wanted me to prioritize their opinions as orders. No, that's not how it should work. I just need someone to be there, not someone who tries so desperately to butt in. Someone who will listen, not someone who will lecture me. I just need someone at my back; just so ever I trip; just so ever I fall. Someone who will catch me, not someone who will direct me. Guide me, but don't weigh me down. I need a confidant, not an partner.
Is that wrong?
Judge all you want.
If you please.
