There is a latest addition to fear - going viral. If I was in Harry Potter, that is my Boggart. People go out these days with an additional layer of wariness. Everything from the way you dress to the volume of your voice has the potential to be videotaped, posted online, and somehow get viral. Even eating alone gets misinterpreted to being lonely once posted online. Once it's out there, it is capable of many and varying intentions. People these days are not allowed to have a bad day. Being mad or impatient becomes a condemning emotion. The only way to enjoy freedom is to suppress your mood, fake a smile, and tolerate the internet's invasion of personal space. Nowhere does it filter the good from the bad viral videos. Like everything else these days, attention is neutral. Going viral does not pick sides. Getting viral for a bad thing may be as threatening as getting viral for a good thing. After all, meaning gets lost in sharing and is determinative to the length of the video, since 2020 became the land of the short form video content. Context becomes collateral damage if the outburst would create views. Add monetization to that effect and it's unstoppable. This is the new world people. AI has slowly reached commercial. With the overabundance of content, all we need now is an engine and we're heading to world domination. I'm not scared, you are.
What about you? What is your boggart?
