Masqueraded by years of neglect

Rare people are born as gold, others born as “others”. In some cases, people are born as silver. Just as beautiful as gold except dimunated by an excess in supply. Silver must struggle to differentiate itself with the other “others”. Unmaintained and unpolished, it becomes just as unvalued as a scrap metal. Silver requires time and effort. It must be regularly cleaned and worn. Unpolished silver is a neglected silver. It devalues the wearer.

I am a silver, masqueraded by years of neglect. Once abundant of care and attention, she danced amongst its kind. She used to be flaunted, adorned, and worn next to the rare gold. Perhaps in her prime, she shined even brighter than the rare gold. A favorite of life, she received all the world’s greatest favors.

Born as a silver, she was a silver. Until she isn’t anymore.
