Description: So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the bestselling authors of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?

Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

Discussion: This is a good coffee-break book. Or should I say an ice-breaker on my part. Something to distract me from life, or the opposite of life, which is - not having one. I totally recommend this book to everyone who's a fan of a light read. I'm usually not, but this was an exception... because I badly needed it. I just got out (not really) of an obsession with a trilogy, and this did wonders (not really). Now I'm over it (not really). However, it did give me a break. It held an aura of peace for those seeking refuge.

But looking back, I think the best thing about this book is found at the very end of the it. No, not the last page of the story, but of the book! Right where you see tidbits of info regards the authors. Right where you find out how the book was written. Apparently, Levithan wrote Dash's perspective and Cohn of Lily's, without both knowing how the story will end. It just merely... happened. Bravo!

I did notice that most of the dares (if not all), are pretty convenient for both characters to figure out instinctively... without challenge at all. It felt like cheating... How appropriate for someone to meet another who can as if read his mind. I don't even know half of what the clues meant. Imagine if I was a part of the game, I'd lose. Don't even reason fate with me mister! I don't believe in fate, so I guess that's why I feel like the exchange of dares were too orchestrated, even for the great two minds orchestrating it. But because the book is very calming to read, I didn't think it mattered much. It didn't bear much weight on my 4/5 rating because I didn't want to think about it too much. I don't want to dig holes so deep I'll bury myself in it.

Another too convenient part was the fact that Lily just has to have so many relatives who work at random locations. However, I think Dash should be applauded for realizing it himself... making the context more believable. Seeming as if the author acknowledges this fact. That it wasn't a loophole at all.

I have to commend both authors, by the way, just to add, for mentioning as many celebrities, poets, books, excerpts, etc, in a book of less than 300 pages. Thanks for letting us know your book was actually written by an author.

Overall, I really liked this book for it's relaxing feel to it. For its not so fairytale but just as fairytale aura. That realization it gave me that things usually happen when you're not looking.

Cheers,
Lilah Gran
