Adrenaline is such a funny thing. It's that burst of energy in a matter of seconds, as I race to my nearest National Bookstore. I believe City of Heavenly Fire was "officially" released May 27 (?), but since I reside in the Philippines, I expected the extra days of waiting in agony; though I wasn't exactly sure how many days. So I stalked National Bookstore's Twitter and Facebook page, anticipating the announcement. For almost a week, there weren't any. Each day I was disappointed just a little bit more. And the fact that I have probably visited National Bookstore's SM Bacoor Branch more times in the recent week than a normal month, didn't help ease the pain of waiting, long queuing considered (May/June being the store's peak months).

Today, coincidently, is also my first day of Internship. I was wide awake since 6 o'clock, waiting for the time to hit 4 o'clock. And just in time when I got home, as I checked my Facebook, there it was... the long awaited announcement from National Bookstore. Thank goodness it was on my top feed, or else I wouldn't have seen it. I stalked the comments, hoping that at least one person bothered to ask whether COHF is available on all branches of National Bookstore, but it had 0 comments. I didn't have a choice. Part of me wanted to stop by tomorrow, after my Internship, but part of me, that very small part of me believes I will be getting my copy of COHF today. I followed my guts.

I rushed to National Bookstore.

I searched the New Release shelves, went my way through the maze of people, desperate to find the Six Book from The Mortal Instruments Series. I was afraid my efforts were in vain, until I managed to get the courage to approach the Customer Service. The saleslady's words still haunts my thoughts up until now. I wouldn't have had my copy today if it weren't for that saleslady. I asked her about COHF, and luckily she was already aware of the book, for she didn't ask me for the author, or to even write down the details on paper.

I was told it was already delivered, yet to be displayed in the store.
She asked me when do I need the book, and I told her I actually needed it last week, lol
And then she told me again that the books were delivered just today, yet to be on the shelves.
So I asked her if I can expect COHF on the shelves by tomorrow.
And then she did the most wonderful thing.
She called whoever she called. Warehouse? Supervisor? Ah who cares.
And then she asked the next most wonderful thing.
She asked me if I wanted one copy today.
And I asked her the most stupid question. I asked her if I can get one today.
The next next most wonderful thing.
She told me to wait.
And when she came back for me,
she was holding the book,
CITY OF HEAVENLY FIRE
big
beautiful
perfect
my
own
copy
finally

And that is how I have COHF, being first *assuming* around my vicinity to own a copy.
