SHORT STORY: Unusual

He asked me of my favorite color, how very mundane. But I paused at the moment, taking in the courageous attempt to get to know me.

I asked her of her favorite color, I know it's pretty mundane. I noticed her hesitation as she took a while to reply. She could choose not to answer but she did anyway.

"Gold," I replied, "if there's such a color." Part of me felt shy about my answer, but I disregarded it quickly. Taking a deep breath, I gave him a winning smile.

She answered "Gold" and smiled at me. It was forced but she made it look natural. She radiated a winning vibe, and I knew she was certain to impress me. Asking such a mundane question just turned into an interesting conversation. She was trying to mock me, challenge me, but I'm ready to play along.

"That's an unusual answer," I said, knowing it's beyond just a color now.

Her reply was instant. With a twinkle in her eye, I can tell she prepared a perfect comeback. "So am I," she replied.

I knew then she was,
Unusual.
