BOOK REVIEW: Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins | 4/5

I don't read a lot of contemporary books, because I don't get usually as thrilled as when I read fantasy books. So I guess that's why I gave only 4 stars.

I couldn't say it’s not good either, only because I'm not a contemporary lover. But if I was, I would have probably liked it more, knowing I love it now.

I heard so many good reviews on this book that’s why I read it, and I found myself nodding in agreement. It’s a typical childhood friend/crush turned lover kind of book. But what makes it so special is how it was written.

I love how the characters were created, especially Lola. I like her creativity. I like reading books that are open with the changes in the society. I like the fact that Lola’s parents are gay. It exposed me to such a life, and this book helped open my eyes. It made me understand. And I find it cool really :)

The name Cricket was kind of weird at first, but it worked out anyway. And I somehow pitied Max and Lola’s relationship. But hey, if love isn’t meant to be, there’s no stopping it from falling apart.

Lola and the Boy Next Door is an easy quick read. And its nice reading books as light as this from time to time. It was relaxing for me.
