#nowwatching: Sherlock

Let me tell you a story.

Once upon a time, a lonely girl decided to put her life on hold because it's Christmas. So instead of taking her driving lessons seriously and practically look and manage to find a job, she sought her friends for some friendly advice. Not to ask about life, or love, or the new fashion trend.

She asked for a good TV show. She just finished watching the entire season of MADAM SECRETARY and she wants more. A TV show that holds power, science fiction, thriller, maybe mystery, could be political, with a mix of action. So there goes the list of suggestions. But the one on top, the one she's been most curious about but refuses to indulge in before because she's forgotten... is a little TV show by BBC called Sherlock.

What a nightmare.

A good nightmare. If there's such thing.

Here's a back story. Something irrelevant but relevant. I'm telling it anyway.

When I was 8, or 7, or 6, could be 9 or 10 years old, my Father would often encourage me to read. So one day, he bought me a book. A book by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - SHERLOCK HOLMES. I've neglected it for some time, can you believe it? The irony.

But there came that day - the day I decided to pick it up. Oh let me tell you. It was mind-blowing. It was the first time I actually read something, a book non-academically related. I remember being awed at Sherlock's deductive reasoning. But I also remembered that my cousins were on their way to my house for the summer, so hello videogames. In the end, I didn't even get to page 50, but it was the beginning for sure. When I think of the first book I've read, I remember Sherlock Holmes.

Okay, since we've got that laid down, let's go back to the story, only I will be switching the perspective. I was the girl in this once upon a time, obviously. I watched the current 9 episodes of SHERLOCK in a whim. Well, 8.5 to be precise since I deliberately did not finish the last episode. I'm not a fan of cliffhangers, you see. I much rather die, because it would feel the same way anyway. My mind won't oblige at waiting. I am impatient. It's a trait I've been trying to counter-measure since I was a kid. I realized my inability to wait for Santa to get me a new toy isn't really a spoiled kid habit. I am an overall impatient human object.

Anyway, I'm off topic now.
Damn.
Let's carry on.

They say first impression lasts. In this case, first version lasts. Sherlock is the only version of Sherlock Holmes that I saw and I refuse to see more. Benedict Cumberbatch did an exemplary portrayal of the detective. And if you hear me say I love Benedict Cumberbatch, I actually mean I love Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in the TV show Sherlock. I may seem unbiased when I say Sherlock is the best Sherlock Holmes show ever because I have nothing to compare it with, but you're wrong! I have the illusion in my head and my high expectations to gladly compare it with. And it exceeded that. Yes, that would be my defense.

Also because the character, Sherlock Holmes, really isn't too difficult to admire. I've made it clear before that I love reading/watching from smart/clever characters' point of view and right now, we can all agree that Sherlock is definitely a check mark for both. To be honest, I would much rather skip any book or film on someone's to be read/watched list rather than deal with the main character's illogical and desperate behavior. I hate those the most.

As a result of everything I just said here, I am now dealing with post-traumatic stress. Here's a wave for you Sherlock! Thanks for the 9 episodes (8.5 episodes) in 3 years. Maybe by the time we get to episode 20, time machine has already been invented and I can just go back in time and stop myself from watching the pilot episode before everything collapses. Oh wait, here it is happening.

I am collapsing.
Not really.
My mind is.
But don't worry.
She's used to it.
By the way, meet my brain.
Her name's Lilah.
Lilah Gran.

Hi.
