Afraid to miss a dance step

I think parents should let their children be children. The thing is, I have never felt like a child. My Dad did not allow me. At least I don't remember being a child on my Father's watch. Whatever memory I have back then got erased because I needed to make space for the list of things I'm expected to do.

I think when we allow children to be children, we allow them to make mistakes. Otherwise, they grow up perfectionists, afraid to miss a dance step. My definition of success becomes that of never failing. I grew up making enemies with the world. Because in my head, I can't rely on failing as a comfort place.
